#97-Spiritual Ideas: Ephesians, part 2

We continue looking at the book of Ephesians by studying the second part of chapter one.  As Paul discusses the key to unlocking the spiritual blessing we talked about in the first study, we find that the key may not be a popular one.  In fact, it can be down-right unpopular — but necessary.  Are you willing to do the unpopular?

I also play an extended excerpt from a recently released audio book, The Swaddling Clothes by Amber Schamel.  This is great historical fiction tracing a history of God’s people from King David to the time of the birth of Christ, focusing on the Swaddling Clothes which ultimately covered the baby Jesus.

This is a hiatus week!

Sometimes, life just interferes with the best laid plans for the week, doesn’t it?  This week has been that way.  I have taken on the duties of a tax preparer (I used to work for the IRS).  In getting up to speed for those duties, I don’t have the physical time to complete a podcast this week.  So, I’m declaring a one-week hiatus!  Check back next week as we take a look at a re-release of another book, The Swaddling Clothes.  This book is currently available for download at CD Baby and will soon come to audible.com and the iTunes store.  Maybe next week, I can announce that this book and another have dropped into the audible library!  Check back then!  See you on Wednesday!!!

#88 – Pearl Harbor Remembrances & Holidays GiftAway

Today is the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese Empire on December 7, 1941.  I start out today’s podcast by remembering the overall events as well as hearing stories from some of the few survivors left.  Plus, there is a surprise at the end of the story that I just learned about today.

We also spend some time looking at two mysteries which are fun reads.  The first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study is Scarlet, is a great mystery which actually helped to change the way the police investigations are conducted today.  And Becky Wooley’s book, Non Prophet Murders, takes us into the world of churches and how they might – or might not – work.  It’s a book which makes you laugh and think, too.

Or course, both of these books are eligible for the Holiday GiftAwayBe one of the first 10 to correctly answer a question about the Christmas Story from the scriptures, and I’ll send you a FREE AUDIOBOOK from the Narration by George Library of book.  Listen for this week’s question.

Sgt. John Yell (back, right)

This Friday is Veteran’s Day.  So, I wanted to honor my fellow Vets with music and reading.  This podcast features a little about the job I used to do for the military, the Armed Forces Medley (all the themes of each of the services), some poetry from Regina Puckett, the story of Sgt. John Yell, the uncle of one of my authors, and the prologue from a book, Undeserved Favor, that will be out in the spring featuring the fictional Sgt. Frank Ballard.  I close with some scripture and commentary that are particularly appropriate for this post-election season.

#27-The Roman’s Quest

The Romans Quest coverIn The Roman’s Quest, by Anne Baxter Campbell, we meet Centurion Julius who has eyes for a young Jewish woman, Miriam.  Miriam also has eyes for Julius, but a Roman is not who her father intends for her.  Miriam is a pious Jewish girl, determined to do the right thing by her God and her parents, and she bows to her father’s wishes to betroth her to a Jewish fisherman, James ben Zebedee.  Her heart yearns for the Roman; his heart yearns for her; but their love is impossible.  Miriam’s mother lies close to death, and her last wish is to see her daughter wed.  The marriage has to take place before it’s too late.  Woven through this story is the presence of a new prophet on the scene; a man called Jesus.

Listen to some extended excerpts from this novel.  The audiobook is coming soon from Helping Hands Press.
