#74-Other Worldly Stories #1

Seasons of Change

Seasons of Change

Last week, we spend some time looking at a science fiction novel for which I’m in the middle of production.  I made a Facebook comment about “other worldly stories” and got response that was above the norm.  So, this week, we start looking at three “other worldly stories” that I have or am producing.

This week features a distopian earth around the Chattanooga area.  Seasons of Change, by Michael Gardner, tells the story of a group of people seeking to avoid being enslaved after the economy collapses.  I play excerpts from the book and share a little of the story with you.

#73-Of Science & Science Fiction

Amazon coverI’m in the midst of narration and production of the latest science fiction novel by Michael Miller, Second Earth, M-104. This is the third in a series of books about an alien who wishes to destroy earth and the scientists who are battling to keep earth alive.  This battle takes a lot of technology – some of it “other worldly”.  Michael takes the time to share some of this technology with us and how he thinks it might work.

I share Michael Millera sample from the book as well as the author’s comments about writing in this genre and the research which goes into the writing of this exciting book.

#72-Headlines

Headlines IconThis week, we’re stepping away from the world of audio books to look at the timeless word of spiritual ideas.  Let me start with a question: Are you afraid?  Do you look at the headlines or hear the stories on TV news and quake from fear?  How do you cope with that fear?

Some people want to spend a lot of time and money and effort in extreme preparation.  So, we have shows on TV, like “Doomsday Preppers” from National Geograhic.  “A show dedicated to ordinary Americans who are preparing for the end of the world as we know it.”  Some people may be paralyzed by fear.  Others may just put it out of their minds.

What should be a Christian’s response to the headlines and news stories we see and hear?  Should we be preppers?  Or hide from it?  Or ignore it?  Do we realize that fear is Satan’s greatest weapon among people of faith?

This week, I want to share a lesson from the preacher at my congregation, Clear Creek Church of Christ, as he discusses what God’s Word has to say about times like these.

#71-Books That Go Together #6

Loves Great Plan_CoverWe close out our series of Books That Go Together with a look at the latest production in the Warren Family Series, Love’s Great Plan.  In this book, we meet David and Charity’s son, Coty.  He is police officer who shoots a teen in self-defense.  While he is fighting his demons after the shooting, will he allow Amanda help him?  Or push her away? Does Love’s Great Plan include a life together for Coty and Amanda? Or not?

So, how about a free book this week?  Send me a message via Facebook or Twitter or e-mail.  I’ll send you a copy of one of the three Warren Family books that I have recorded.  Just tell me which book you want.

Songs That I Whisper

Songs That I Whisper

This week we move from multiple stories about individuals to stories about a family.  In a series of five books, we meet the Warren Family.  The first book I produced for Regina Puckett, Concealed in My Heart, tells the story of the romance between David and Charity Warren.  Songs That I Whisper introduces us to the first of their adult children Suzette and her beau, Seth Black.  We examine and sample both of these books in this podcast.  Next week, we’ll look at the other books in the series.

#69-Books That Go Together #4

lobe & matterLast week, we started looking at a pair of books by Michael Miller.  These books – The Sixth Lobe and Born to Matter – tell the story of Danny Wilson and his unusual ability to read people’s sub-conscious thoughts.  We met Danny as a boy last week.  This week, we see him all grown up and tackling the real world.  I play samples from the second book, Born to Matter.  Join me for a fun ride.

#68-Books That Go Together #3

The-Sixth-Lobe-NEW-WEB-ICONWe continue sampling from Books That Go Together; stories and characters that are sooo good that they cannot be told in one novel.  Today, we start looking at the two book story of Danny Wilson in The Sixth Lobe and Born to Matter by Michael Miller.

In The Sixth Lobe we meet Danny and discover his condition – an extra lobe in his brain that allows him to read other people’s subconscious thoughts.  This is a problem for young Danny; an opportunity for the adult Danny; and it creates interest from several parties as his abilities are discovered.  How does he handle this situation?

#67 – Books That Go Together #2

Knighthawke-NEW-WEB-ICONKNIGHTHAWKE--VS-NEW-WEB-ICOWe continue looking at books-that-go-together by sampling more from the Knighthawke series.  Remember, books that go together are stories and characters that are so good that they cannot be confined to one novel.  It takes multiples.  The Knighthawke series is just one of the ones I’ve recorded.

Knighthawke tells the story of an American hero, Michael Webber.  In the second book, Knighthawke: Vanishing Shadows, Michael continues his quest for his identity and taking on missions for the Air Force, many involving international intrigue.  Michael continues with his one mission – find his family.

#66 – Books That Go Together #1

Knighthawke-NEW-WEB-ICONWe start a new series today in “Books That Go Together.”  Sometimes a story is so good that it cannot be told in just one novel.  It must spread across to a second, maybe a third, maybe more.  Think of the Lord of the Rings series, for example.  I have recorded several books which fall into this category.

Today I focus on a book which covers the life of an extraordinary young man named Michael.  Since this covers his life, it had all the elements you might want to see in a book – mystery, adventure, romance, and even some science fiction.  And that is just in book one.  Listen for some samples of a wonderful read.

#65-Thinking of Clerical Crime

Non-Prophet Murders cover

This week’s podcast requires some thinking. Some books just set you thinking; even if they are murder mysteries.  In this case though, I’m not thinking about how the crimes might have been better executed.  I ask some questions of Christians about the reputation of the Church – the Bride of Christ.  All of this is stimulated by re-examining Becky Wooley’s book, Non-Prophet Murders.  Join me and let me know what you think with some feedback!  I’d love to hear from you!
